This file contains important information about this release of the OLAP Manager Add-in Kit 1. The add-in kit contains three add-in programs that work with Microsoft SQL Server version 7.0 OLAP Services and related service packs.
The add-ins enhance the functionality of the OLAP Manager. The Calculated Member Manager enables you to create and edit calculated members in virtual cubes. The Copy and Paste Add-in enables you to copy and paste certain objects within the OLAP Manager tree view. The Archive and Restore Databases Add-in enables you to archive and restore OLAP databases.
This add-in kit is supported on Intel and compatible operating systems. For more information, see the add-in kit documentation.
You must install the OLAP Manager before you install the OLAP Manager Add-in Kit 1.
To install the add-in kit, run Addins.exe on the computer where the OLAP Manager is installed. Setup allows you to select which add-ins you want to install. If the OLAP Manager is running while you install the add-ins, you must close and then restart the OLAP Manager before you can access the add-ins.
There is no removal utility for the add-ins. To disable an add-in, clear the check box next to its name in the Add-ins tab of the Properties dialog box in the OLAP Manager. You must close and then restart the OLAP Manager for this change to take effect.
You can access each of the three add-ins through the OLAP Manager user interface. Right-click an object in the OLAP Manager tree view, and then click the added menu command. You can also select the object and then click a command on the Action menu.
To access the Calculated Member Manager, right-click a virtual cube, and then click Manage Calculated Members.
To access the Copy and Paste Objects Add-in, right-click an object, and then click Copy or Paste. This add-in is not available for all types of objects. The menu item is the only user interface for this add-in.
To access the Archive and Restore Databases Add-in, right-click a database, and then click Archive or Restore.
You can access the documentation by pressing F1 or clicking Help in an add-in dialog box. You can also open the documentation file, Msmda01a.chm, directly from Microsoft Windows NT Explorer. By default, Setup installs this file to C:\Program Files\OLAP Services\Help.

Large Databases
You can now archive and restore databases that are larger than 2 gigabytes (GB). If you archive a database that is larger than 2 GB, OLAP Services creates additional CAB files, naming the new files by appending numbers to the name used for the original file. For example, if you use the name MyCab.cab, the next file is MyCab2.cab, the one after is MyCab3.cab, and so on. However, no single file in the database can be larger than 2 GB, because each created CAB file contains up to 2 GB. If you try to archive a database that contains a file that is larger than 2 GB, you receive an error message.
Repositories That Have Been Migrated to SQL Server
The Archive and Restore Databases Add-in now supports databases whose repository has been migrated to SQL Server.
Cubes That Do Not Have a Default Partition
Under certain circumstances you may receive an error when pasting a cube or database with the Copy and Paste Objects Add-in. If you have deleted the default partition from a cube and then copy and paste the cube or a database that contains such cubes, a new default partition is automatically created during the paste operation. You will receive an error message to this effect. This additional partition can cause some of the data in the cube to be duplicated, which may produce incorrect summary information.
You can correct this situation after pasting the cube or database. Exit the OLAP Manager to release the lock on the partition, and then restart the OLAP Manager and manually delete the default partition from the pasted cube. A pasted database may contain more than one affected cube. A cube's default partition is automatically created when the cube is created and has the same name as the cube.
